Managing theatrical productions and live events for a quarter century, I pride myself on having an eclectic career.

Shows on boats, beaches, ballrooms, bus stops, trains, malls, and stadiums have all been exciting parts of my journey.

KINETIC LIGHT

Kinetic Light is an internationally-recognized disability arts ensemble. Working in the disciplines of art, technology, design, and dance, Kinetic Light creates, performs, and teaches at the nexus of access, queerness, disability, dance, and race.

As Production Stage Manager for this ground-breaking company, I’ve had the pleasure of joining them at Lincoln Center, The Shed, and The Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago.

New York, Boston, Chicago received new playback system, cameras, monitors, Absen screens, and upgraded content, each with less than two weeks dark. As producer, I advanced the projects over the span of 12 months, connecting artistic direction to local production, staffing the team, managing the budget, and making sure goals were met. The product is a stunning reenvisioning of Blue Man content, and a reinvigorated local community.

NETWorks Productions

I served as the Production SM Supervisor for the BMG National Tour, both in fall of 2019 (round one), and post-covid remount Winter 2022. It is a special treat when I get to collaborate with an operations stage manager, helping build a sustainable product and culture together; and I especially love the production process! The remount had just as much content creation as it had reviving the old, which kept us all on our toes, but we were still able to get ahead of schedule in tech, making time for extra runs and training an entirely new crew.

DJEMBE!

As one quarter of a production management team, my primary responsibilities were securing lighting, sound, and backline rentals. We all had our specifics task lists, but came together as one united front when pulling it together. I value the unique experience of working with a team of peer production managers, rather than solo or hierarchically.

polar express on amtrak

The challenge of producing a show that takes place on a moving train is unique in all the world- the only ‘backstage’ is a car filled with consoles, changing stations, and crew, set in the middle of a seven car train serving 450 patrons. What do you do when a listing element fails in one of the performance cars? How do you even know that is happening? We learned how to run a show through audio feed and radio, how to cross between cars discreetly walking through performance spaces, how to collaborate within a super-structure of train schedules and federal law. And in a six week run, we entertained over 75,000 souls, creating a magical and unforgettable event for kids of all ages.

As resident Production Stage Manager, there were many responsibilities outside of maintaining the show. Leading teams in the creation and execution of promotional videos, live appearances, new material, and flash performances was a regular part of any given work week. Blue Man Group’s co-pro with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra at Pritzker Pavilion was one of the highlights for me. As were the dozen short films I had the pleasure of producing- processes very different than the theatre collaboration that was my comfort zone, and refreshing as such!
